Working in a foreign country can be isolating, and many workers become anxious or depressed. In particular, workers recovering from injuries or pursuing salary claims are not allowed to take up employment. Saddled with worries about their health or income, there is a real risk of depression.
Our Discover outings offer a brief respite from these pressures, and lets every worker know that they are not alone. They also allow migrant workers to access spaces in the city that they might not otherwise afford to by themselves.
Grain Traders, a restaurant in the CBD, hosted our affiliate groups and their communities for a free lunch in 2024.
Gardens By The Bay, 2025. Many beautiful places in Singapore are built by migrant workers themselves, but require paid admission. The continued partnership of groups like Gardens by The Bay and Mandai Wildlife Group makes outings to these destinations possible.
On average, Discover outings occur once a month, and are organized by a team of volunteers. Most of the time, due to limitations in budget, our volunteers plan for activities in public spaces, incurring costs only for transport, a meal and refreshments. They are always grateful for partnerships with schools, sponsors, and external organizations to vary the programme and include trips to paid-admission places.

Google HQ, 2025. The Google team hosted a group of Special Pass workers at their office, and the tour ended with a lunch treat.
Discover Singapore highlights
On Fathers’ Day, the Discover team organized a special lunch and open-top bus tour for 35 workers. The lunch was sponsored by a kind Singaporean, who wanted to celebrate her 40th birthday by treating workers (who were over 40-years-old and not in a supervisory role) to a sumptuous meal. There were many smiles and beautiful photos taken against Singapore’s iconic cityscape, before the day ended in the supertree grove at Gardens by the Bay.
Thanks to the generosity of a sponsor, the Discover team was able to organize a full day-out at Sentosa for a group of 150 workers. They enjoyed a scenic cablecar ride, and had a fun time taking pictures at the trick-eye museum. The day then ended with sports and dinner on the beautiful coasts of Sentosa. It was a memorable day for many workers, who loved the chance to socialize and visit a unique destination.
Transient Paddlers Count Too (TPC2) is a dragon boat group that comprised of migrant workers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and India. In 2023 and 2024, Discover volunteers organized weekly training sessions for these rowers at Bedok Reservoir, bringing nutritious snacks for the team. A year after its formation, the TPC2 team debuted in the local sports festival Pesta Sukan 2024 at the Water Sports Centre in Kallang. As funding has dipped in the post-Covid19 years, however, the dragon boat team has now been discontinued.
