The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has just launched its fifth annual Global Media Competition to recognize exemplary media coverage of labour migration. The themes for 2019 are ‘fair recruitment’ and ‘the future of labour migration’. Professional and student journalists can participate, and in fact, for the first time, the competition has instituted a student prize category. There is also an option for a fellowship prize.

The competition aims to promote quality reporting on labour migration issues. Across the world, migrants face prejudice, intolerance and stigmatization in their workplaces and communities. The competition seeks to encourage balanced and ethical reporting which can contribute to addressing stereotypes and misconceptions, and to highlight the positive contribution that migrant workers make in their origin and destination countries.

The submission date is 31 October 2019.
