Three workers, reported to be from China, died as a result of a traffic accident along the Pan-Island Expressway, June 22, 2010. Two men died on the spot while a third passed away later in hospital. Six men remained warded overnight.
XinMSM reported that although the decal on the back of the wrecked lorry showed a maximum of 13 workers allowed, there were at least 17 present at the time of the incident. This, however, has not been confirmed by other sources.
The government had announced last year, new safety standards for the transport of workers using goods vehicles, but many of the measures have yet to come into force.
