The above video was created by a group of students from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. Introducing themselves to TWC2 at the start of their project and seeking our endorsement, they wrote: “We have chosen to do our project on construction worker and how they are human too and that their jobs are dignified as well. It will be in the form of a short clip of approximately 5 minutes.”
The result is a wonderfully crafted piece of work.
However, for accuracy’s sake, we need to point out that there is one tiny error (at 1 min 28 secs) within the video. Migrant workers in non-domestic work are entitled to paid annual leave as provided for under the Employment Act, in the same way that local employees are. Unfortunately, many workers do not know it, and their bosses do not go out of their way to inform employees of their rights. It is hardly surprising that Sudha might have told the students making the video that he is not entitled to paid annual leave.
