TWC2’s Discover Singapore team and The Coffee Roaster cafe organised an introductory barista course for eight workers under our care on Saturday, 14 September 2019.

On arrival, the men were greeted by a neat little sign welcoming them.

Injured workers often have a lot of free time on their hands while they wait to recover and get their compensation. Discover Singapore’s activities keep their spirits up and boredom away.

Sometimes, the injuries are such that they may never be able to return to construction or related work again, so it’s always a good idea to introduce them to other vocations for their future.

Marcel Bandur, a TWC2 volunteer and co-leader of the Discover Singapore team, has observed a growing coffee culture in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. “There is a demand for good quality coffee and a shortage of trained baristas,” he told Yahoo News.

“It was very interesting,” said Nobi Nur, one of  the men who attended the course. “I usually don’t drink coffee,” he added, “I didn’t know [one] can make so many surprising things with a cup of coffee.”

The introductory course was given by Ang Swee Heng, the founder and owner of The Coffee Roaster cafe.

Yahoo News carried a nice story about this event on Monday 16 September. A screen shot of the Yahoo page is below, and you can read the full story at this link.
