Below are two screenshots of Facebook postings (7 April 2016) by Jolovan Wham, executive director of the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME). What they clearly show is that the practice of forcibly repatriating migrant workers, sometimes without even paying them their salary, continues to this day.

His reference to “walking time bomb” is related to a speech in parliament by MP Denise Phua 6 April 2016 in which she used this term to mean Indian and Bangladeshi workers. See this news flash for more details.

Injured workers are particularly vulnerable. Many of TWC2’s clients have said — see our many stories recorded here — that it is their fear of being seized and brought to the airport that led them to quit company accommodation. This fear is real, not a figment of their imagination, as these incidents handled by Jolovan Wham show.
